After finding out that Humphrey's was under pressure by developers to sell, then Saint Louis University student Jim Swift rose to action. After meeting with Humphrey's owner, Jan Mangelsdorf, Swift learned that Humphrey's did not wish to sell the bar and was being threatened with eminent domain.

In response, Swift purchased the domain SaveHumphreys.com and outlined why the landmark Saint Louis tavern should be saved. Swift was able to secure many sponsors, ranging from greek organizations such as Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and Sigma Kappa Sorority, to alumni groups, individuals, and even local top-40 station Z-107.7 to sponsor t-shirts.

After ordering (and selling at cost) hundreds of t-shirts, numerous media pieces, and over 1 million hits on the webpage, the loyal patrons of Humphrey's were able to secure its deserved place in Saint Louis history.

After the campaign, Swift worked as a doorman at Humphrey's, and currently maintains its webpage.

Thank you to everyone who was a part of Save Humphreys!
